the client at dorchester enlisted dawn for a third project, this time to create an outdoor retreat for yoga classes, grilling, and lounging with family and friends.

With the goal of multiplying usable space, Dawn partnered with an architect to redesign the sunroom. Windows were replaced with NanaWalls, seamlessly connecting the inside and outside. The ceiling was raised and a light fixture accents the pitch. Inherited artwork from the client’s mother was added as another vibrant statement.
Outdoors, a space designed for gathering: a pergola made of natural cedar offers shade from the elements. A state-of-the-art grilling setup, complete with outdoor refrigeration and ample seating space, allows the client—a “varsity griller”—to entertain with ease. An EcoSmart fire table and patio lights create a warm atmosphere. For furnishings, neutral tones of black, white and gray are paired with textures and teak.
To honor the client’s memory of their childhood Japanese-themed garden, Dawn created a serene outdoor oasis featuring lush greenery, bamboo, and Japanese maple trees. A modern stone path of large-scale pavers leads students through the yard to the client’s yoga studio.
